What does "pilot" mean?
The dashboard is being built now. We're taking a small number of fleets onto the first version so it's shaped by real work. You get a written list of what's live on your start date and what comes later, and nothing is charged until your trackers ship. The pilot starts on a few vehicles for about 30 days; we agree beforehand what it should show.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the number of vehicles, plug-in or hardwired units, and how you pay: buy the trackers and pay monthly for the service, or one monthly fee per vehicle that includes the trackers. Fill in the quote form or call, and you get a written quote after a 15-minute call.
Is there a contract?
If you buy the trackers, no: the service is month to month. The all-in monthly fee has a minimum term, written in your quote.
What is the tracker?
A small LTE unit with GPS. We set each one up for our dashboard, label it with the vehicle it's for and ship it with the SIM inside. The warranty is ours: 12 months against defects if you buy, and for as long as you subscribe on the all-in fee.
Which vehicles work with the plug-in tracker?
Any car or light truck sold in the US since 1996 has the OBD-II diagnostic port it plugs into, usually under the dashboard on the driver's side. Heavy trucks and equipment without a usable port take the hardwired unit, fitted by your mechanic with our notes. Trailers need a battery unit, which comes after the pilot. Electric vehicles vary; we check the model before shipping.
Do I need my own SIM or phone plan?
No. The SIM is inside the tracker and the data is in the monthly price.
Do I have to tell my drivers?
Yes, in writing, before the trackers go in, and only in vehicles your company owns or leases. In Florida, the owner or lessee of a vehicle may put a tracker on it (Florida Statute 934.425). Other states have their own rules; New York, for example, requires written notice of electronic monitoring with a signed acknowledgment. We give you a one-page notice to hand out. We're not lawyers; if you're unsure, ask one.
Can you watch my vans for me?
The alerts go to you and the people you name, and your team decides what to do. Fleet Monitor staff don't monitor maps. If a vehicle is stolen, call the police and give them the location from your app.
Is this an ELD?
No. Hours-of-service logs for commercial drivers come from an FMCSA-registered electronic logging device. If your trucks need one, it runs alongside the tracker, and the tracker still puts those trucks on the map with the rest of the fleet.
Will it lower my insurance?
We don't know, and we don't promise it. Some insurers offer discounts for telematics; ask yours what they'd need to see.
What if a tracker stops working?
Tell us. If it's a defect, we ship a replacement under the warranty and you send the old one back in the same box. Damage, water and a wrong-port installation aren't covered, and a replacement is charged.
Where is my data, and for how long?
On our servers in the US. We keep position history for 12 months and the monthly reports while your account is open. When you cancel, we delete your data within 30 days, except invoices. You can ask for a spreadsheet export at any time. See the privacy notice.
What happens if I cancel?
If you bought the trackers, you stop paying from the next month and keep them; without the service they stop reporting. On the all-in fee, you can stop at the end of the minimum term and send the trackers back. If we end the service during your pilot, we refund trackers bought in the previous six months and send you your data as spreadsheets.
Can my drivers turn it off after work?
Location sharing can pause outside the hours you set, for vehicles that go home with a driver. The tracker itself doesn't have an off switch; unplugging it shows up as an event.
Do you come on site?
Trackers ship to you and plug in, and account setup and training are by video call, in any state. Help on site is quoted.
Is there an app?
The dashboard installs on your phone from the browser, with the map, alerts and trips. There's nothing to download from an app store. A driver view comes later in the pilot.
Still deciding?
Ask for a quote. You'll get a call, a written quote and a list of what's live, before you pay anything.
